MSc Professional Accountancy is suitable for those who aim to become professionally qualified accountants.
MSc Professional Accountancy is fully accredited by the ACCA, a full member of the International Federation of Accountants, which operates in countries across the world. Full accreditation means that successful completion of this programme will entitle graduates to claim exemptions from ACCA Fundamental Papers: F1 to F9. Thus, graduates, who may be recruited onto this programme from many different countries, will attain advanced standing into a programme of professional education that will be relevant in many different countries.
The course will provide an international perspective on the theory and practice of Professional Accountancy. This degree is suitable for those who have studied accounting before but who do not have professional accreditation.
The programme is the first UK masters programme to combine Masters level study with full professional body accreditation from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants
This programme includes five compulsory taught modules:
- Audit, Assurance and Professional Ethics
- Professional Financial Management
- Professional Financial Reporting
- Professional Management Accounting
- Tax Compliance and Fiscal Studies
Plus a student-led Professional Accountancy Project.
Methods of Teaching & Assessment:
Teaching will involve a mixture of lecture style-delivery, workshops, student presentations, student-led discussion sessions, computer laboratory-based sessions and guest speakers from the accountancy profession and practice. The learning environment will encourage student participation in their own learning experience in order to nurture independent life-long learning and the development of professional and generic skills.
Assessment will be a mixture of unseen examinations and coursework assignments. To meet ACCA professional body accreditation criteria, each accredited module will incorporate a 3 hour unseen final examination which contributes to at least 50% of the final module grade.
The student project will comprise individual student work focused on the accountancy profession and/or practice and will be supervised by School staff. The project will include an extended literature review, which may include company analysis, capturing relevant academic literature, professional accountancy pronouncements, professional publications, the financial press and use of specialist software, as appropriate. The project will examine and appraise complex ethical and professional issues requiring students to make judgements and propose recommendations about such issues in the context of current global accountancy professional and practice.
