The Masters (MLitt) in Humanities is a highly flexible, research preparation masters, which allows the student to select modules from across the School of Humanities. It is an interdisciplinary degree with immense choice for a return-to-study student.
Why study for an MLitt in Humanities?
You will emerge with a variety of enhanced study and research skills, selected to suit your interests. These may include a strong exposure to the latest Humanities theory (including critical theory, postmodernism and poststructuralism), archival skills, research by non-archival means (such as through statistical or database analysis, or oral-history interviewing).
You will also gain in-depth expert knowledge in the content modules you choose, and in the research area in which you specialise. The lecturers are all active researches, many of whom are nationally and internationally renowned in their fields, and they bring their front-line research and perspectives to their teaching.
Career Opportunities:
MLitt students may be studying as part of their full-time career development, arriving straight from a first degree, and developing their trajectory towards Ph.D. study or entry to a profession. Others may be part-time students, already with a degree and in a job for some time, and returning to study. Masters in Humanities classes are typically composed of such a mixture of backgrounds.
Professions entered with a Masters degree can be very varied — teaching in secondary, further or higher education, media and publishing, or work related to museums, archives and galleries.
All our Humanities MLitt degrees have a common structure of 30 (2 x 15) credits of:
- Generic Skills
- Theory in the Humanities I
Plus two modules from a suite of Research Methods options (15 credits each), and a free choice of two content modules from over 30 available (15 credits each). For the current list, visit the course website.
