The International Law programme aims to give law graduates and others an in-depth understanding and appreciation of the law in relation to key international law subjects and areas and an understanding of the context within which international law operates.
Dundee Law School:
In the 2009 Good University Guide Dundee Law School was placed 9th in the United Kingdom law school rankings. In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise Dundee Law School was one of only two law schools in the United Kingdom to achieve a 100% international standard classification, with half of our submissions being graded internationally excellent or world leading. Our commitment on is to provide high quality instruction, with a focus on matters of practical relevance, to prepare students for a successful legal career, whether at home or abroad.
Contents
The programme provides an opportunity to develop understanding of the key elements of international law through the Principles of Public International Law Module and the International Dispute Settlement Module. Principles of Public International Law examines issues such as the sources of law, personality in international law, jurisdiction, state responsibility and the enforcement of international law. International Dispute Settlement provides a more detailed understanding of the mechanisms available to resolve international disputes and their operation.
In addition there is an opportunity to develop breadth and depth of understanding in the currently topical and controversial areas of the protection of human rights and international criminal law. There are three optional and complimentary modules on human rights - International Human Rights, International & Comparative Human Rights & Civil Liberties and Rights in Europe and one on international criminal law - Individual Criminal Liability in International Law. In addition students may choose one option from another LL.M. programme offered by the School of Law.
Methods of Assessment:
Substantive modules: continuous assessment plus end of semester examinations in December and March/April.
Compulsory dissertation: 12-15,000 words.
IELTS
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Applicants must have, or expect to receive in the anticipated year of entry, a good honours degree in law, of at least upper second class or equivalent. Exceptionally, non-law graduates with relevant legal experience may be considered.
English Language Requirement: IELTS of 6.5, with minimum of 6.0 in the writing component (or equivalent), if your first language is not English.
In order to make the application process as efficient as possible, students applying to The School of Law are asked to ensure all relevant supporting documents are included with the application. These include:
- Relevant degree certificates and transcripts of academic results.

- Two academic references.
