The University of Southern Denmark offers a two-year international Master's program in Computer Science at The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science.

The program, which starts at the graduate level, is open only to well-qualified students with a bachelor degree or equivalent in Computer Science from other institutions of higher education. The courses in the program will be taught entirely in English.

The research at The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science is related to four areas

* Algorithmics
* Architecture
* Cryptology
* Databases

Contents

The first year of the program consists of course work and the second year is taken up by an independent research project leading to a dissertation. The entire program, including the course work, will be decided upon on an individual basis based on the application, in cooperation with the future thesis advisor, which will be a member of one of the department's research groups. The degree qualifies the graduate for business/industrial positions and further Ph.D. studies.

The Department has a special group whose mail focus is on applications of effecient algorithms in industrial applications (especially optimization problems). The possibilities of making a thesis project in collaboration with an industrial partner are very good. Such projects, if completed succesfully, may be followed up be a Ph.D. study where one works on a research project formulated in collaboration with an industrial partner.

The research at The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science is related to four areas:

Algorithmics

Where the primary areas are combinatorial algorithms, data structures, graph algorithms, parallel and distributed algorithms, on-line algorithms, meta-heuristics, and complexity theory.

ArchitectureWhere the primary areas are cluster computing, high performance computing, computer arithmetic. SDU has experimental cluster equipment as well as the largest Nordic cluster computer with nearly 1000 processors.

Cryptology

Where Cryptographic protocols have been the main focus of the recent work. There are two major directions. The first is finding protocols for specific problems, such as signing messages, confirming signatures and denying signatures. The other major direction has been that of zero-knowledge proofs and arguments.

DatabasesWhich focuses on query language design and query optimisation in relational database systems, and on index implementation in parallel as well as in sequential database systems.

Students with a bachelor degree or other degree based on at least three years of higher education after the high school level with good grades. Qualifications in Computer Science and Mathematics corresponding to a bachelor degree in Computer Science from a well-respected institution. Only students with the prerequisite qualifications can be accepted; it is not possible for students without a command of the Danish language to take supplementary courses to bring them up to the required level for graduate study.

Students with bachelor's degrees from countries outside Switzerland or the European Union

· Students with a bachelor degree (or other degree based on at least three years of higher education after the high school level) with good grades.

· Qualifications in Computer Science and Mathematics corresponding to a bachelor degree in Computer Science from a well-respected institution.

· Satisfactory results from the Graduate Record Examination in Computer Science

· A minimum result of 6,5 in the IELTS (International English Language Testing System). The only exception to this requirement is for applicants whose first degree was taken in Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the USA.
