Aims of the Programme:

MSc Climate Change Economics & Policy aims to provide an integrated understanding of the issues involved in the most talked about policy debate of our times, climate change, from an inter-disciplinary perspective taking economic, legal and political aspects into consideration. It will prepare students with skills required to analyse, synthesise and evaluate key theoretical concepts related to climate change and their practical applications to the energy sector. This will prepare the students for success in this evolving field.

The MSc is made up of core and elective modules, as follows:

Core - Induction Programme

- Climate Change Economics and Policy

- Politics of the Environment and Climate Change

- Energy and Climate Change Law and Policy

- Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development – Economics and Policy Issues

- Renewable Energy: Technology, Economics and Policy

Electives - 80 credits from:

- Implementation of Climate Change Obligations

- Energy Economics – the Issues

- International Nuclear Politics

- Energy Economics – the Tools

- Quantitative Methods for Energy Economists

- Commodity Trading and Strategic Asset Optimisation in the Energy Industry

- Environmental Law and Policy for Natural Resources and Energy

- International Developments in Energy Policy

Core - a dissertation or internship in the field of climate change economics and policy.

Methods of Assessment:

Each course is assessed by a combination of examinations and a research paper.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Requirements

You should have a good 4-year degree, equivalent to a UK honours degree, preferably at upper 2nd class level or above. Candidates holding the equivalent of a good 2nd class lower degree may also apply. You must provide degree certificates and academic transcripts with your application. Preferred degree disciplines are Law, Economics, Geology, Petroleum or Mining Engineering, Finance. Work experience in the energy/natural resources industry is an advantage, though it is not a strict requirement for admission to the MSc.

English Language Requirement: IELTS of 6.5 (or equivalent), if your first language is not English.
