Our MSc programme is designed for economists and non-economists who wish to gain an understanding for the economics of the international petroleum and energy industries. It is suitable for those aspiring to be analysts and advisers in the economic, commercial and financial aspects of those industries.

The MSc is made up of core and elective modules, as follows:
Compulsory Modules:
- Energy Economics the Issues
- Energy Economics the Tools
- Induction Programme
Core Modules:
- Downstream Energy Law and Policy
- Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development - Economics and Policy Issues
- International Developments in Energy Policy
- Mineral Resources Policy and Economics
- Petroleum Policy and Economics
- Transnational Investment Law and Policy
Specialist Option Modules:
- Candidates are advised to choose additional modules from what is available on the academic timetable subject to any restrictions that may apply.
- Together with the core and compulsory modules above, excluding the Induction Programme, they should add up to 140 credits for the M.Sc.
The taught component is followed by either:
- A dissertation of up to 15,000 words on a topic approved by an academic supervisor, or
- An Internship report - students who choose this option are required to source an organisation willing to offer a 3-month work placement, approved by an academic supervisor, or
- An extended PhD Proposal - students who propose to follow up the MSc with a PhD may, with the approval of an academic supervisor, submit a 10,000 word PhD proposal.
Methods of Assessment:
Each course is assessed by a combination of examinations and a research paper.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

You should have a good 4-year degree, equivalent to a UK honours degree, preferably at upper 2nd class level or above. Candidates holding the equivalent of a good 2nd class lower degree may also apply. You must provide degree certificates and academic transcripts with your application. Preferred degree disciplines are Law, Economics, Geology, Petroleum or Mining Engineering, Finance. Work experience in the energy/natural resources industry is an advantage, though it is not a strict requirement for admission to the MSc.
English Language Requirement: IELTS of 6.5 (or equivalent), if your first language is not English.
