The MBA International Oil & Gas Management consists of a deliberate blend of business and management studies which has been created to run alongside a range of practical, skills-based activities and an assortment of student-centred extracurricular opportunities.
The programme uniquely contextualises the study within the petroleum industry from beginning to end, ensuring that our graduates can "hit the ground running" in management roles in the industry when they leave. Guest speaker programmes and input from practitioners also enhance the student experience.
The programme draws on the globally recognised expertise of the the staff within the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP).
CEPMLP achieved a high research rating in the 2008 UK Research Assessent Exericse as part of the submission from the University's Law Unit of Assessment. The Unit finished among the top four in Scotland (out of 11), and among the top 19 out of 67 in the UK. All of its research was classified as being of an international standard.
Aims of the Programme:
The aim of the 12 month MBA International Oil & Gas Management programme is to prepare participants for middle management or advisory positions in the private sector and government. The programme aims to provide an intellectually challenging academic programme of study, which will demand of the student the ability to analyse, synthesise and evaluate key theoretical concepts and practical applications in oil and gas management.
Students will be expected to apply learning in a simulated workplace environment, utilising case study method as a vehicle for knowledge acquisition, reflection and application.
The MBA programme consists of a compulsory three-week induction covering basic principles of law, economics, finance, geology and graduate research methods (20 credits). There are then six core management modules (Economics, Accounting, Finance, Strategic Management plus two electives) to the value of 100 credits, followed by specialist and elective modules to the value of 40 credits, and an Integrative Strategic Module to the value of 40 credits.
Methods of Assessment:
Each course is assessed by a combination of examinations and a research paper.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
