The Masters in Primary Care is for advanced Continuing Professional Development, not a certificate of competence to practice, and is designed to be undertaken on a part-time or distance-learning basis, which will normally take 3-5 years to complete. The course is modular and linked to the Credit Accumulation and Transfer system (CAT), awarding SCOTCAT levels and points from Level 2 to Masters Level.

The main advantage of distance learning is that it allows students to study at a time, pace and place convenient to their needs. Learning is consequently integrated with other commitments, whether professional, personal or domestic. Distance learning is an increasingly popular method of course delivery for busy professionals wishing to update their practice or continue their academic development.

The University has in place a wide range of support systems to help distance-learning students at various stages of the learning process; from face-to-face and telephone tutorials to text-based or electronic study guides that direct learning from commencement of a module to the formal assessment.

International Students:

Many of the Scottish MSc in Primary Care modules are designed for primary care professionals who practice (or will practice) within a primary care setting in the UK (ie the content is specific to current legislation and working practices within the UK). Depending on the selected modules, the programme may also require the student to attend one of the partner institutions. You are strongly advised to discuss any proposed study programme before applying to the course.
