The M.Sc. in Computer and Information Security provides a postgraduate route for current graduates from technical disciplines relevant to computer science to pursue a career in computer and information security. The course aims at equipping graduates with necessary technical knowledge and skills to fulfill the urgent needs of industry for security professionals in areas related to systems and network security, requirements engineering, modeling and analysis of security and digital forensics. In an increasingly complex digital world, where threats towards sensitive, risk- and cost-critical information relevant to national defense, industry and large-scale sciences, are becoming ever more subtle, a M.Sc. in Computer and Information Security providing such knowledge and skills is indeed a timely course.

The course can be studied full-time for one year or part-time for two years.

Contents

The course will be structured into four core units, providing security skills and expertise at various levels of software development. These units are described below:

· Formal Approaches to Software Development: This unit will comprise two parts. The first is requirements engineering, where analysis of security at the requirements stage will be covered. The second is formal methods, where formal techniques are used to modeling and analysis of security properties.

· Advanced Programming Techniques with Applications to Mobile Devices: This unit will focus on secure and advanced programming techniques and their applications to the domain of mobile devices.

· Digital Forensics and Cryptography: This unit comprises two parts. The first will cover cryptography as a fundamental for achieving security, and the second will provide advanced knowledge in digital forensic techniques.

· Computer and Network Security: This unit will comprise two parts. The first will deal with security in distributed systems, covering areas such as security properties, models, architectures and mechanisms as well as security policies. The second part will cover network security, such as Internet security, authentication protocols, security in network devices and security in virtual services.

The above units will be followed by the final M.Sc. project.
