Students will spend at least half your time studying Greek and reading classical Greek texts in the original. Other course units will be chosen from those available to Classics and Classical Studies students: topics include Latin language, ancient philosophy, ancient history and classical archaeology as well as Latin and Greek literature in translation.
Throughout the course, students will learn skills in classical Greek sufficient to understand and analyse large sections of a range of authors in the original language, acquire interpretative and analytical skills in dealing with a variety of primary and secondary literary, philosophical, archaeological and documentary source material and develop a critical knowledge of methodologies deployed in the study of ancient literary, philosophical and historical texts.
The Department offers rigorous degree courses which will prepare you for a broad range of careers. Our graduates are highly employable and, in recent years, have entered many different roles including teaching. Many have also progressed to postgraduate study in a variety of fields.
