The aim of the major in Strategy and Organization is to provide competence in
contemporary strategic management and organization design. The contents represent state-of-the-art in strategy and organization research and practice.
The Strategy and Organization major provides competences for students who want to pursue a career in management consulting, corporate staff functions, general management or business development.
Four distinct profiles offer specialization in: 1) Strategy and Organization Design, 2) International Management, 3) Human Resource Management, and 4) Management and Finance.
The core of the Strategy and Organization major consists of four constituent courses: Foundations of Strategy, Applied Strategy, Foundations of Organization, and Applied Organization. These courses combine two distinct tracks, one relating to strategy and the other to organizations. Each track has a clear progression, starting from a first stage with theoretical foundations and proceeding to a second stage with practical applications.
The student may wish to add a third stage in the progression of the major by choosing the course in Advanced Strategy and Organization Theory. This course integrates the strategy and organization tracks at an advanced theoretical level. A bridging course in Value Chain Design offers similar integration at the level of application.
Four distinct elective profiles are offered. The four profiles are:
I. Strategy and Organization Design
II. International Management
III. Human Resource Management
IV. General Management
Each of these consists of two constituent courses.
There is a clear progression in the pedagogy and methods of learning. The "foundations" courses tend towards a lecture-based format, whereas the applied courses will use the case format and also involve the students in actual practice. The course in advancedStrategy and Organization Theory combines the two formats. Mastering quantitative and qualitative methods are an integral part of the program. Knowledge about methods is acquired through hands-on application.
