The Master of Forensic Toxicology (MFT) is a 1-year taught masters course designed primarily for graduates of Chemistry, Pharmacology, Biochemistry and other allied subjects, who also have experience of working in a forensic environment. The aim of the programme is to provide post-graduate students with core knowledge, experience and intellectual skills in forensic toxicology, with expertise founded in current scientific knowledge and devoid of bias.

The programme also aims to produce students that have a thorough practical and theoretical understanding of both the legal and scientific requirements of a forensic toxicologist. Students will also gain an introduction to the wider subject of forensic science.

Contents

In each of the first two semesters entrants will study three modules:

- Forensic Medicine

- Forensic Science

- Forensic Toxicology

and if they are taking the masters they will complete their studies with a self-directed research project.

Methods of Teaching and Assessment:

The programme is based on providing the practical working and knowledge requirements for forensic toxicologists and is taught through lectures, seminars, demonstrations and observations. Students will have the opportunity to visit a working mortuary as well as undergoing work shadowing in a working forensic toxicology laboratory.
