On this programme you will study a wide range of topics including ethics, metaethics and global ethics;epistemology and metaphysics; mind, language and action; and the philosophy of health and happiness.You will be taught by a vibrant community of philosophers, pursuing original research on a wide range of topics on which expert supervision is available.

Like the MPhil(B)|, MA programmes involve both taught modules and a dissertation. However MAs incorporate more formal coursework than the MPhil(B), and MA dissertations are less substantial (circa 12,000 words, as opposed to 20,000). MA programmes can also be treated as preparatory for the PhD. MA students are assigned a mentor and a supervisor, and attend formal teaching and training sessions.

Contents

Apart from the difference in weighting of coursework-to-dissertation noted above, the main distinction of the MA programmes is the inclusion in most of them of elements provided by other departments, promoting an interdisciplinary approach.

In addition to the dissertation, you take a research skills module and select options from:

* Philosophy of Language

* Philosophy of Cognitive Science

* Philosophy of Mind

* Ethics

* Metaphysics

* Epistemology

* Other relevant M-level modules offered by the department of Philosophy (including the Centre for the Study of Global Ethics) and other departments
