The MA in Modern European Cultures is a taught postgraduate degree, which utilises the strengths of the departments of French, German, Hispanic and Italian.
The programme aims to provide you with a detailed knowledge of approaches to the study of aspects of modern European cultures from c. 1789 to the present day, to familiarise you with research methods applied to this area of intellectual inquiry, and to allow you to make critical use of these research methods.
The MA programme comprises six modules (120 credits):
* Research Skills and Training
* Ideas of Europe
* Nations and their Neighbours
* Three optional modules, which can be taken from other masters level programmes in the College. In the past, students have taken, for example, Cultural Inquiry, or Gender Studies modules
The taught modules are designed to provide a pathway from previous academic work to an individual research dissertation project of 12,000 words selected by the student (60 credits). The programme enables the production of such a thesis, and also acts as preparation and training for students keen to pursue further research at doctoral level
