This programme now contains two distinct pathways:

* Pathway one – based in CELS, suitable for students with other language combinations, including Chinese, Arabic, Polish, Greek, and Malay, among others
* Pathway two – based in CELC (with some contribution from other schools, where appropriate), focuses on translation and cultural transfer in and between modern European languages and English

This MA qualification is designed for people who are proficient in more than one language and would like to start a career as translators, for translators who would like to develop their skills in areas such as translation technology and terminology management, and for linguists interested in translation and cross-cultural communication as an area of study. The course combines both practical and theoretical elements and therefore also provides excellent preparation for further study at PhD level.
Our students benefit from the expertise available within the Departments of English, French, German, Italian, Hispanic Studies and the Centre for Russian and Eastern European Studies, and have access to the facilities provided by the Centre for Corpus Research, which holds a large collection of corpora in several languages.
