The aim of this master'sdegree is to provide advanced knowledge in the field of musicology and musical education, which will allow students to become familiar with the main methodologies for the research, analysis and interpretation of historical, oral, documentary and didactic sources related to music.

Skills acquired

* Analysing and interpreting music-related historical and documentary sources.
* Analysing teaching and learning situations within the field of musical education.
* Applying scientific methodology to the study of music.
* Developing the ability to communicate correctly and transmit acquired knowledge to both specialised sectors and the public in general.
* Distinguishing different methodologies that exist for musicological research and for research into the didactics of music.
* Distinguishing types of music according to their cultural areas and social contexts.
* Mastering computer technology in order to use the different types of music software that can be found on the market.
* Written presentation, with the quality that is required by a scientific journal, of the results of the research work carried out.
* Identifying the areas covered by music teachers.
* Conducting archival, periodical and bibliographical research activities related to the field of music.
* Recognising different contexts (social, economic, artistic, etc.) that surround the music profession.

Ideal student profile

This master'sdegree is designed for university graduates who also have musical knowledge.

Admission

* University Degree in Music or equivalent.
* University Diploma or equivalent.
* Officially recognised foreign degree qualifications similar to the aforementioned.
* Musical knowledge is required (it is necessary to hold at least a diploma in music or demonstrate one’s knowledge by passing a specific entrance exam).

Selection criteria

* Your prior qualifications will be taken into account:
First preference will be given to candidates who have studied a subject linked to the area of music.
Second preference will be given to candidates who have studied a subject linked to the area of humanities (art history, history, humanities, etc.) or education (teaching or education studies).
Third preference will be given to candidates with qualifications from other fields of studies.
* Your student record will also be taken into account.
* As will the results of your entrance exam (if applicable).
* All candidates shall be assessed in equal conditions based on the following aspects: research experience, publications, grants or supports obtained, as well as professional experience.

If you do not have a diploma in music or advanced music studies, you will need to take the entrance exam, which will test your knowledge in music theory and analysis, as well as musical interpretation.
