This MSc in Civil Engineering is offered for civil engineering and related graduates wishing to enter the profession and who choose to study a general Masters-level course rather than specialising in a particular subject area. The Birmingham MSc in Civil Engineering allows students to tailor their studies to meet the needs of their chosen career path by offering a wide range of modules which can be selected, together with a wide choice of individual research projects.

The course is made up of a total of 180 credits, 120 of which are from taught modules and a research project forms the basis of the remaining 60 credits.

The taught modules cover the four main core themes of Civil Engineering: Structural, Water, Geotechnical and Transport Engineering, plus a compulsory 20 credit module on Finance and Core Skills.

The research project can be industry or University-based. It can be taken in collaboration with a company, or be more research-focused

Requirements

Applicants for admission to the MSc should normally hold, or be expecting to achieve, a good first degree (Bachelor or Master level) or other approved qualification at an equivalent level. This would usually be Civil Engineering or a related discipline. Applications from holders of pertinent non-engineering degrees will be welcome.

Relevant post-graduate experience in industry will also be taken into account in considering applications and holders of CEng and IEng qualifications or equivalent, but without a degree, are also invited to apply.

Overseas and EU applicants should also note that an English language qualification will be required if their first spoken language is not English.
