Official Master within the framework of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).
Aimed at different professionals within the setting of the Healthcare Sciences for both professionals with diplomas or graduates interested in advanced training and investigation in critically ill patients.
This program is made up of 60-120 ECTS credits, with a multidisciplinary approach aimed at perfecting the competence necessary for the management of critical patients and in emergency settings, including aspects on healthcare economics and bioethics as well as a detailed study of the tools and methodology required for biomedical research.
The program includes an investigational study aimed at entering to Doctoral programs.
Description
The social and economic importance of critical and emergency care patients is clear and appropriate healthcare should, therefore, be guaranteed. Many healthcare professionals (medical doctors, registered nurses, physiotherapists, pharmacologists, ...) attend critical patients in our medium.
Up to now no postgraduate program has covered in an interdisciplinary form all the knowledge and clinical competence of acute severe disease including the fundamentals of healthcare economics and bioethics specified applied in critical patients and in the emergency setting. Moreover, this Master in the setting of the European Higher Education Area is focused in giving the tools and methodology of research for clinical and biomedical studies. It is precisely aimed at trained professionals seeking excellence, and provides a comprehensive, exhaustive and complementary program and differs from any other prevailing training plan in our medium. Along this line, similar prestigious masters on critical and emergency care are provided in the United States and the European Union.
We consider our proposal to complement and optimize the training offered by the University of Barcelona and University Autònoma of Barcelona, and demonstrates the effort required to agglutinate the groups of investigation within the medical and biomedical sciences avoiding individual limelight and favoring collaboration and synergy. The students taking part in this Master will have access to the Doctoral Programme.
Participants: Facultat de Medicina (UB), Facultat de Medicina (UAB), Sistema de Emergències Mèdiques (Fundació Robert, UAB), EUI Santa Madrona (UB), EUI Sant Joan de Déu (UB), Institut Universitari Fundació Parc Taulí (UAB), Observatori de Bioètica i Dret (UB), Facultat de Ciències Econòmiques i Empresarials (UB).

* Providing an interdisciplinary, in depth and updated view of the knowledge, technical abilities and skills needed:
- to improve diagnosis, treatment and care of criticalpatients or those in life-threatening situations;
- to learn advanced skills in the care of criticalpatients in emergency situations.
* Identifying the principles of medical humanism that must exist between doctor and patient.
* Carrying out a research project on the specialisation of Intensive Care Medicine based on a previously thought out project. This will allow you to perform research tasks without the need of a doctorate or a title as a Specialist Doctor.
* Being able to detect:
- legal aspects related to caring for acute and seriously ill patients;
- fundamentals and principles of health economics applied to the fields of intensive care medicine and emergency care;
- suitable management skills and techniques applied to the surroundings and infrastructures for criticalpatients, as well as how to obtain the maximum cost-profit ratio in services for these patients;
- knowledge, skills, techniques and procedures needed to care for criticalpatients in intensive care and emergency units;

The Master teaching program is structured in modules, which are integrated by mandatory and optional subjects, with an overall offer of 200 ECTS-credits. To achieve the Diploma of the Master, it has to surpass a minimum of 60-120 ECTS-redits, depending on the previous universitary accreditations and work experience in critical care or emergency medicine:
* * An intensivist doctor has to surpass a minimum of 60 ECTS-credits: are mandatory 10 ECTS-credits for each of the common modules (total of 30 ECTS-credits) and 30 ECTS-credits for the research project.
* For a doctor not being intensivist, it has to surpass a minimum of 90 ECTS-credits: are mandatory 30 ECTS-credits from the advanced clinical module, 10 ECTS-credits for each of the common modules (total of 30 ECTS-credits) and 30 ECTS-credits for the research project.
* In case of a nurse with long work experience it has tu surpass a minimum of 120 ECTS-credits (or those needed for accesing to doctorate, depending for each country): are mandatory 30 ECTS-credits from the advanced clinical module, 10 ECTS-credits for each of the common modules (total of 30 ECTS-credits) and 30 ECTS-credits for the research project. The remaining 30 ECTS-credits belonging to the basic clinical module are validated.
* In case of a nurse with long work experience it has tu surpass a minimum of 120 ECTS-credits (or those needed for accesing to doctorate, depending for each country): are mandatory 30 ECTS-credits belonging to the basic clinical module, 30 ECTS-credits from the advanced clinical module, 10 ECTS-credits for each of the common modules (total of 30 ECTS-credits) and 30 ECTS-credits for the research project. For each mandatory module, the student has to registrate to all the mandatory subjects and at least to half of the optional ones. An studen may registrate to subjects belonging to non-mandatory modules, although they do not count for the total amount of ECTS-credtis to surpass.
