Pharamacology is in the broadest sense a biological science which studies the actions and properties of drugs in organisms with the foremost aim of offering patients benefits in a rational and strict manner. Pharmacology is an eminently experimental speciality divided into numerous branches and interrelated with many disciplines. These crossroads of disciplines give way to new areas such as pharmacogenetics, pharmacoeconomy and social pharmacology.
The main objective of the master's degree is to provide you with the necessary skills to carry out clinical or preclinical research related to drugs and their therapeutic use in medications in order to begin your professional career or apply for a doctoral programme. You will acquire both knowledge of the scientific, ethical and social basics of pharmacology and the skills and attitudes needed in the practical application of the development and use of drugs.
Skills acquired
You will become familiar with the scientific bases of pharmacology, with special emphasis on genetical, biochemical and physiological concepts; and in the ethical, legal and social conditionings they are founded on. You will also recognise the procedures and methodologies used in the different stages of research and development of drugs.
You will be able to apply your pharmacological and methodological knowledge to carry out clinical or preclinical research and to interpret the results of your studies. You will also acquire the professional skills needed to enter the business or administration sector (professional specialisation) or the competences that will allow you to continue onto a doctoral programme in any of the biomedical or health areas (research specialisation).

Ideal student profile
The ideal profile for this master's degree is a person interested in developing their professional career in the research or management areas of the private sector, in public research institutions devoted to the field of biomedicine, or in hospitals with pharmacology research programmes for different services and departments. Other persons interested in this master's degree are those wishing to continue onto the research specialisation of a doctoral programme in any of the areas of experimental or health fields.
Admission
* Hold a four-year degree or EHEA degree in Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacy, Odontology, Nursing, Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Psychology or other qualifications related to health or experimental sciences and valid under the Spanish university system.
* EU graduates with a minimum of 180 ECTS credits in one of the aforementioned degrees. If you are admitted to the research specialisation of the master's degree with only 180 ECTS credits completed, you will need to enrol in experimental sciences modules belonging to other master's degrees to complete the necessary credits.
