Providing the scientific and methodological bases that will allow students to improve their research capacity and professional work in different branches of Palaeontology.

Skills acquired

* Generating research in the field of palaeontology.
* Carrying out field and laboratory methodologies for different groups of fossils.
* Managing palaeontological collections and designing dissemination and museum projects.
* Gathering and assembling field and laboratory data.
* Recognising and using Catalonia's fossil register.
* Solving specific problems in different branches of palaeontology.
* Using disciplines such as compared anatomy, functional morphology, biomechanics, etc. to get as near as possible to the biological and ecological parameters of organisms and ecosystems that existed in the past.
* Using geological theories, paradigms and concepts to obtain an adequate and global view of the history of Earth.
* Using biological and ecological theories, paradigms and concepts to analyse biological aspects of organisms from the past.


Contents

Depending on your previous studies you will need to take additional courses to complement your training. You will be assigned a tutor to help you decide which subjects to take.

The master'sdegree is designed for students to concentrate their studies on different aspects of Palaeontology. For this reason all 3 course units (10 ECTS credits each) within the academic specialisation are optional. The list of optional course units is determined each year.

You can choose the ones you are interested in with the help of your tutor, who will also be directing your final research project (30 ECTS credits).

IELTS

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Ideal student profile

This master'sdegree is designed for students with degrees in Geology, Biology or equivalent studies (Botanics, Zoology, etc.), History, Environmental Sciences or those with similar qualifications.

A four-year or three-year degree in Geology, Biology or equivalent studies (Botanics, Zoology, etc.), History, Environmental Sciences or similar qualifications.
