The strategic importance of information and communication technologies (ICT) has become increasingly visible with the advent of the internet, the convergence of technologies and the new generation of personal devices. This has created a growing demand for specialists who are able to understand the importance of information and communication technologies. The finance, energy, health and transport sectors are all extensive users of ICT and require well-trained professionals.
The Master of Science in ICT Strategic Management was created on merging two pioneering international groups within the university, the ICT Department (listed amongst the top 100 in the world in the Shanghai Ranking ‘09) and the Economics and Business Department (first in the Tilburg Economics Ranking’08).
The main objective of the programme is to provide professionals with the business skills needed to succeed in an increasingly competitive world and to teach them how to use the vast quantity of information that is continuously generated from different work processes in the most efficient way possible, in order to enhance the company’s ICT strategies and make them beneficial for the company.
Students must complete a 12 to 24 week internship during the final part of the programme. They are offered a position in organisations and institutions where they are given responsibility to carry out tasks and projects under supervision. This type of project-based learning is an essential part of the programme as it offers students the opportunity to develop an ICT project in a pioneering company. Furthermore, the experience gives students very valuable professional contacts.
The programme is aimed at people who have studied Economics or Business and wish to improve their advanced technology application skills, as well as those who have studied IT, Engineering, Mathematics or Physics and who wish to gain a deeper knowledge of ICT management. The merger between business and engineering makes the MSc an ideal setting for learning to develop management skills, thanks to the exchange of experiences in a diverse and multicultural environment.
The structure of the Master of Science in ICT Strategic Management (MUISM) starts with two parallel tracks (IA and IB) followed by a set of mandatory subjects, including an internship and a final thesis in a business area that permit the student to focus their master in the direction of their choosing.

IB: ICT skills for business/economists.

Second Quarter (20 ECTS) Tools for Management
