Presentation

The MSc in Management is a one-year program for students interested in an analytical approach to management.

While an MBA program focuses on the practical application of management theory, the MSc in Management will provide an advanced-level analytical foundation in the student's chosen specialization track, and allow for the pursuit of a highly focused research project through a master's level thesis. In contrast to an MBA, the emphasis in this program is on thinking and understanding, not doing, and on analysis rather than mere description.

The MSc in Management is an academic degree with no requirements for previous job experience. However, the program is aimed at students with some quantitative background.

Objectives

The MSc in Management (MSCIM) offers a strong professional focus and is very well suited for students wishing to gain positions in industries where analytical skills are at premium. This degree is particularly designed for students who want to pursue careers in management and strategic consultancy; supply-chain management; marketing research; public sector management and retail management. The Department of Career Services will provide resources and training in skills that complement this academic preparation.

The MSc in Management is also a very good basis for a career in academia with the possibility of accessing our PhD program in Management.

Programme

The various courses are based on a wide variety of academic disciplines. The degree comprises four core courses: two in analytical tools (statistics and managerial accounting) and two in management theory (marketing and organizational behavior). In addition, students can choose one of three specialization tracks: Strategy, Operations Research and Marketing. Finance is covered in the core courses and may additionally be chosen as an elective.

Potential candidates

Graduates who are interested in widening their theoretical and practical knowledge in the world of management and in continuing their studies in an international setting. As already mentioned, the program is aimed at students with some quantitative background. This includes students with a first degree in engineering, science, or a social science, who have had some quantitative training. The degree may also appeal to students with a first degree in economics, or an economics-related subject. Applications from graduates in the humanities and other subjects are also welcome but must demonstrate basic competence in quantitative methods.
