The programme constitutes the same level of demand as the PhD degree, but includes a formal taught component in addition to a research-based thesis, thereby enabling healthcare professionals who do not wish to undertake a purely research-based degree to gain a doctoral level qualification. A parallel programme is run by the Department of Pharmacy in the School of Biomedical and Health Sciences and students on both pathways ; students have the opportunity for shared learning.
The programme comprises compulsory taught modules and a research based thesis. The taught modules are: Philosophical and Theoretical Perspectives of Healthcare; Advanced Qualitative Research Methods; Organisational Development in the Public Sector; Advanced Quantitative Research Methods, Specialist Practice Portfolio in Healthcare; and Developing a Research Proposal.
