Public Policy and Administration (PPA) is a modern master’s degree in sociology for future and current employees of the public sector and others active in organisations and institutions that cooperate with public administration.
The four modules are designed and taught in a way to allow prospective students to combine their studies with full time employment. PPA is not only an academic program. The program is practice oriented, which means that students will have a chance to deepen their knowledge and skills needed for effective performance of functions of public servants, advisors and experts in public administration, public institutions as well as in public and private organizations that interact with the public administration.
Public administration needs modern, educated employees who understand their job as a trully public service. The public service that has a distinctive mission, of which the ethos is reflected and valued by its employees, and finally whose employees understand their roles and are focused on results. Such employees must be able to undertake cooperation not only between government agencies, but also with business and the third sector (associations, foundations and citizen initiatives). This poses new challenges – public servants must know how to operate in conditions of objective external dependencies. In turn, the more public administration is opened, the more it requires from external cooperating organizations to act accoroding to specific principles of public sphere and its codes of conduct - in the implementation of public tasks.
The mission of PPA is to prepare professionals working or intending to work in public administration, or in the institutions cooperating with the public sector, to take up the challenges of modern public service. PPA alumni will be prepared to deal with challenges related to the process of public management, with particular emphasis on the impact of Polish membership in such structures as the European Union, the Council of Europe, OECD, NATO, or the United Nations.
PPA is bi-lingual (English-Polish) program: 70% of teaching is done in English. In addition to classes held in English, we offer the opportunity to improve language skills at Empik School.
Students who wish to start the program may be either graduates of BA programs or graduates of other MA programs who want to supplement their diploma with masters degree in sociology.
