The masters program in Computer science and Engineering with specialization in Mobile Systems is for students who have completed a Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related disciplines. The program focuses on mobility enabling computer and communication technologies, applications for handheld and mobile devices as well as new services enabled by mobile systems and networks. This program is designed for students who wish to enhance and advance their knowledge in the areas of mobile computing systems, software engineering for applications and systems using mobile networks and devices, computer communications, distributed and web-based applications and services. The program has also strong focus on developing research skills, in particular, ability to identify and define the problem, propose a theoretical solution and support this proposal with implementation and validation.
Coursework primarily consists of advanced courses related to research areas within the Department of Computer Science and Electrical engineering. The first year is based on course work and the second year is dominated by a development project as well as a larger thesis work that is often carried out in cooperation with hi-tech ICT industry which is strongly present in and around LTU. Such R&D companies as Ericsson Research, and others, including many SMEs, may offer industrial placement program and internships to outstanding students. Theses are usually supervised by academic staff members who are internationally recognized researchers and experts in the field. It is also possible to carry out the work at an external research lab.
The language of instruction in the Mobile Systems Masters program is English.
Labour market
This program will give you broad technical competence together with expert knowledge within your field of interest. You may work as a key developer for a small innovation company, as well as employed by the R&D departments in larger companies, with a possible career path both as a specialist and in management. Your knowledge may lead to positions in as diverse fields as technical development, science and engineering research, and information & communication technology consulting. For many students, a subsequent career in academic research and education is an attractive alternative.
For a Masters degree in Computer Science and Engineering, specialization Mobile systems (120 ECTS), the requirements comprise Master thesis of 30 ECTS, project of 15 ECTS and 75 ECTS of Computer Science and Engineering coursework, where 60 ECTS of the coursework must be at the advanced level. For research-oriented students thesis and project ECTS can be combined to demonstrate a significant research component of 45 ECTS in the degree. Courses can be delivered in both single-campus and multicampus mode. Distance education mode will also be offered to Swedish and Inernational students.

General entry requirements, second cycle
Specific entry
Bachelor's degree of at least 180 ECTS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical/ Electronics Engineering or Information Technology or a closely related area. At least 22,5 ECTS mathematics at the university level has to be achieved. Knowledge of computer networking, programming and operating systems is recommended. Applicants must have documented skills in English corresponding to the level of English in Swedish upper secondary education (English B). Proven language proficiency in English, can for example be shown by an international English test as TOEFL or IELTS. Some specified university studies can also be equivalent.
