Software has become an increasingly important element of many products that are developed today. There has been a shift in development costs from hardware development to software solutions. This increases the need to be able to develop software products with the right functionality, quality, on time and on budget.
The European Master on Software Engineering is constructed to meet these challenges by educating software developers in advanced software engineering concepts that covers the entire development chain, from the business management perspective to the technical management and the development perspectives.
The programme spans two years, and is organised around a set of mandatory and optional courses. The mandatory courses provide a broad basis and cover several advanced topics, which the software engineering industry currently requires. Moreover, they ensure a common ground for all students. The optional courses enable you to specialise within a specific perspective and thus to increase their attractiveness to future employers in a way that they see fit. All courses are designed to present a blend of state-of-practice and state-of-the-art. This is further strengthened by the fact that the university hosts active research within the areas of all the mandatory courses.
Cooperation between Sweden, Spain, Germany and Italy
EMSE is given by a network composed of Universidad Politéchnica de Madrid (Spain) as coordinator and Blekinge Institute of Sweden, University of Kaiserslautern (Germany) and Free University of Bozen-Bolzano (Italy). The partner institutions have strong relationships with European software companies which guarantee that students of this program will be able to deal with industry's real problems.
Study in two countries
The language of instruction is English. Students can follow the EMSE program at any two institutions of the consortium (with half of the total academic load ECTS at each of the two institutions), and receive the corresponding double degree provided by those two institutions.
The student studies in two different countries during the program. The program is divided into two parts, where the student study the first year at one university and the second year at another university (modules and project are entities that must be done completely at a single partner institution). Student mobility is based on the fact that all master students, at whatever partner institution they study, will be brought to a comparable level of knowledge and skills (through the compulsory subjects) during the first year.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

These requirements are the same for all applicants, regardless of their origin (EU or non-EU) or the application for an Erasmus Mundus Scholarship.
