The MLitt incorporates a formal research training component where you will develop your research skills and methodologies (20 credits). You also complete a number of detailed research assignments chosen according to your interests and experience (80 credits), and undertake a dissertation of 16,000–24,000 words consisting of a sustained piece of original research (80 credits). Study consists mainly of seminars, tutorials and independent learning supported by research training.
Dissertation supervision is available in the following areas: American literature and culture; children's literature; late-eighteenth century and Romantic-period studies; gender studies; Modernism; modern and contemporary British writing; nineteenth-century literature postcolonial studies; and Renaissance and early modern literature and culture.
You may also attend lectures and seminars on other postgraduate taught modules (without assessment) with the permission of the module convener.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
