This programme offers the opportunity to specialise in Byzantine Studies through intensive engagement with the history, culture and politics of the world that succeeded the Roman Empire.

Students will typically already have some experience of studying the Byzantine world, but will not necessarily have a degree in the subject. Students undertake training in key methodological skills, both subject-specific and transferable, and also undertake a range of taught modules covering subjects such as relevant source languages, Archaeology, Art, History, Literature, and Numismatics. In addition, students undertake a supervised research project that results in a 12,000-word dissertation.

This degree provides an excellent foundation for further research, but also allows students to specialise in a fascinating era often underdeveloped at undergraduate level. Hence this programme also offers an excellent culmination to undergraduate study.
