Climate change mitigation is a key global issue and an emphasis on the carbon emissions of fossil fuels is needed to solve the wide ranging and cross-cutting energy problems that we face.
Carbon Capture and Storage has the potential to decarbonise the energy conversion and energy production sectors whilst allowing the use of fossil fuels for the next decades with reduced carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
The MSc programme incorporates two streams, suitable for students with differing career aims and backgrounds. Both streams draw on our world-class inter-disciplinary academic research in Carbon Capture and Storage, including insights gained from collaboration with a broad range of industrial stakeholders.
They provide a unique multidisciplinary teaching programme to develop the next generation of leaders that will implement the large-scale decarbonisation of the energy sector.

Requirements
Students applying for a University of Edinburgh MSc in Carbon Capture and Storage can choose between two streams, as outlined in more detail on the Carbon Capture & Storage website - see the link under "Find out more" below.
For the "Carbon Capture and Storage" stream, a minimum of a 2.1 Honours degree or international equivalent in an engineering or geoscience subject is needed. Evidence of numeracy is also required.
For the "Carbon Capture and Storage (Engineering)" stream, a minimum of a 2.1 Honours degree or international equivalent in an engineering or physical sciences subject is normally needed.
Applicants with backgrounds in other fields will only be accepted for the ‘Carbon Capture and Storage (Engineering)’ stream if the University can be satisfied that the necessary mathematical and technical skills have been acquired elsewhere (e.g. relevant experience in industry).
