Maintenance plays a major part in ensuring the reliability of systems, planned availability of assets, health and safety, environment and product quality standards, customer service and other important aspects. If these issues are not addressed, the survival of many organisations is at risk.
Historically, maintenance has been associated with the cost of labour and spare parts. With the advent of modern technology, maintenance has now evolved from a non-issue to a more strategic concern in most organisations. However, other factors such as reliability and availability, downtime and product quality can be key factors when measuring maintenance effectiveness. In addition, the objectives must be attained in accordance with the environmental and safety regulations.
Many organisations have failed to develop maintenance strategies in line with their investments to accomplish their business objects. This has resulted in a considerable gap in the refined management skills and expertise essential to maximise the benefits of advanced industrial technologies and the basic management skills which currently exist in the maintenace sections of most organisations.
This programme provides a suitable qualified or experienced engineer of all disciplines, modern cost effective maintenace management techniques for the efficient operation of all types of sophisticated, complex equipment. It is expected that most of the students selected for this programme with a Master's degree. However, there will be opportunities to opt out at several stages during the programme and obtain either a Postgraduate Ceritificate or Diploma.
