This programme offers a wide choice of modules which cover the skills that modern construction professionals need in order to meet the challenges of the industry. It also provides recent graduates and experienced professionals with an outstanding opportunity to upgrade their skills in order to enhance their career choices.

The programme allows students scope to develop a bespoke skillset by selecting from the range of elective modules we provide. All modules are also delivered by means of web-based learning.

The choice is open to experience professionals, but recent graduates will receive guidance in the selection of appropriate modules. The programme is available to study full-time (one year), part-time (two years) or by distance learning (two to four years).

The MSc programme is accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), and has been developed with significant support from the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), allowing successful MSc graduates to progress directly to the assessment of professional competence. Students who successfully complete the Postgraduate Diploma (PgD) stage, comprising eight modules, have the opportunity to progress to the preparation of a dissertation for the award of MSc in Construction Management.


Contents

Full-time: One year.
Part-time: Two years.
Distance Learning: Two to five years.

Trimester 1: Core: The Management of Health and Safety in Construction; Construction Organisation and Project Practices.
Electives: Construction Dispute Resolution; Value Management; Construction Economics; Development and Project Economics; Sustainable Design and Construction.

Trimester 2: Core: Construction Financial Management; Project Management.
Electives: Strategic Management in Construction and Property; Managing the Construction Process; Project and Development Risk; Contract Administration.

MSc: In addition to the requirements for PgD, students must also submit a dissertation.

Assessment: Each module will be assessed individually by a combination of coursework and formal examination.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Requirements

The programme is designed to accept Honours graduates (minimum 2:1) or equivalent in any relevant discipline or professional qualification (PMP, MRICS, PAPM, MCIOB).

Candidates without formal degree level qualifications may be accepted, subject to relevant industry experience and discussions with admissions tutor.

We highly recommend, however that part-time and distance learning applicants are employed in a post related to the content of the degree.
