The new MSc Quantity Surveying programme equips construction professionals with the skills necessary to manage the costs of construction projects both in the UK and overseas. Students have the opportunity to develop the abilities, frame of reference and a common understanding of construction economics and project management to work more effectively within the industry.

The programme utilises a range of new and proven modules designed to enhance the skill set of the construction professional, integrating core modules to include:
- Quantification and Costing of Works
- Sustainable Construction
- Construction Economics
- Construction Markets and Procurement
- Development and Project Economics
- Construction Project Finance
- Contract Administration
- Construction Financial Management

Over and above these core modules, the programme embodies a wide range of potential electives that reinforce the professional requirements of the modern construction industry and help develop student competency in a range of appropriate specialist areas including:
- Project and Development Risk
- Project Management
- International Construction Dispute Resolution
- The Management of Health and Safety in Construction
- Value Management
- International Construction Project Finance


Contents

Full-time: One year.
Part-time: Two years (one day per week).
Distance Learning: Two to five years.

Trimester 1: Core: Construction Economics, Development and Project Economics and Sustainable Construction.
Electives: International Construction Dispute Resolution; Research Methods; Management of Health and Safety in Construction; Construction Dispute Resolution.

Trimester 2: Core: Contract Administration; Construction Financial Management; Quantification and Costing of Works and Construction Markets and Procurement.
Electives: Project Management; Project and Development Risk.

MSc: In addition to requirements for PgD, students must also complete a Professional Project.

Assessment: Combination of coursework, online discussions, case studies, professional project.

The programme uses web-based virtual learning environment to deliver the learning and teaching. For full-time and part-time students this is complemented by face-to-face enhancement workshop sessions,

Requirements

The programme is intended to be accessible to applicants from a wide range of background. The normal entry qualifications is an Honours degree (2:2 and above) or an equivalent overseas qualification.

Applicants with appropriate professional experience are also considered. It is expected that part-time and distance learning students would be in employment in a post relevant to the content of the degree.
