Students can study toward a named award in:
MSc Social Research
Designed both for researchers and data analysts working in the Voluntary Sector, Local Government and Central Government, and for the postgraduate students preparing for PhD study. This pathway will enhance vocational skills for career researchers who may not otherwise have undertaken comprehensive training in research practice. The pathway will provide sponsoring employers and students with a clear and comprehensive programme of vocational learning.
MSc Social Research (Policy Analysis)
This pathway also provides a comprehensive introduction to research. Policy-focuses learning and knowledge application form a distinctive additional component of this particular pathway, making this pathway particularly relevant to policy offers and information officers.
'Associate Student' status is available on both the MSc Social Research and MSc Social Research (Policy Analysis) degrees.
'Associate Students' will be permitted to register for one or two single specialist modules without enrolling for a named award/pathway. Candidates seeking 'Associate Student' status should meet the entry requirements of the programme and take account of any specific prerequisites which must be fulfilled prior to module registration. 'Associate Students' may progress to register for the Certificate, Diploma or Master's awards at a later stage.
Graduates typically undertake further study toward a PhD or pursue careers in a wide range of research-related posts in public, voluntary and private sector organisations.
Full-time: Typically 12 months.
Part-time: Typically 24 months.
Note: Both modes are possible for both pathways.
Each pathway offers the possibility of three exit awards:
PgC: 6 modules (60 credits)
PgD: 12 modules (120 credits)
