This programme, which is academically challenging and vocationally relevant, will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the science of pharmacology and allow you to develop bench skills together with an understanding of techniques currently used in pharmacology. In addition, the programme aims to promote strong communication skills and independent thought, in preparation for employment or PhD studies.
The programme will use a variety of learning and teaching methods such as lectures, seminars, practical laboratory classes and lab-based project. The project is a key feature of the MSc programme, being intended to develop independent thought by the student through the application of theoretical principles studied during the course.
The Department was highly rated in the recent UK government's Research Assessment Exercise (RAE 2008).
Job opportunities in this area include working in the pharmaceutical industry, clinical data analysis, university and industry research departments, and the Life Science sector, as well as further study towards a PhD.
Trimester 1: Biomolecular Studies; Research Methods for Biomedical Science; Essentials of Pharmacology; Pharmacology: Special Topics.
Trimester 2: Toxicology; Drugs and Disease; Research Project Planning; Drugs and Cellular Communication.
Trimester 3: Laboratory-based project.
Assessment: Each module will be assessed individually by a combination of coursework and/or formal examination.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
