This programme, suitable for students with a Bachelors degree in computing science, is excellent preparation for careers in computer architecture or project management, for undertaking basic research or establishing your own consulting or software development companies, though the skills you gain will be valued in a wide range of careers.
The MSc provides a wide range of modules and can be tailored to your individual interests and needs. Comprehensive computer science research training is also provided to help promote development of your skills in computer and information systems. The programme will also enable you to develop both your technical and professional skills to underpin personal development and future career success.
You take compulsory modules (50 credits), optional modules (40 credits) and a project and dissertation (90 credits). Compulsory modules typically include: research skills; a group project in computer security and resilience; and a choice of three modules from a selection of six depending on your skills and experience on entry.
These include: advanced programming in Java or object oriented programming; distributed algorithms or the challenge of dependable systems; and intenet programming or human factors engineering. Optional modules cover: the challenge of dependable systems; enterprise distributed computing; system validation; information security and trust; information management; system security; system design; high integrity software development; and internet programming.

A second-class Honours degree (2.2 or above) or equivalent in computing science, software engineering or a discipline with a significant computing component (eg engineering including systems engineering and mathematics). Candidates are expected to have knowledge and experience of a high-level programming language. Applicants whose first language is not English require IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 90 (Internet-based) or 577 (paper-based), or equivalent.
