This course is part of the taught MSc programme in International Maritime Studies (IMS) which is designed to provide a period of intensive study in a specialist maritime area. The programme offers intellectually challenging courses with a diversity of learning experiences that aim to provide you with the skills and knowledge to operate competently within these developing areas.
The MSc International Maritime Studies - Shipping and Logistics degree is designed to enable you to have a detailed knowledge and understanding of both the operations and strategies of shipping as a single transport mode within the context of international multimodal logistics.

Assessment
Each taught unit is assessed by a combination of presentations, written coursework and/or an examination. The exact combination of assessments, and their timing, depends on the subject nature of each unit.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Register Now!For all IMS courses, the normal academic entry requirement is a minimum of a lower second (2.2) Honours degree (or equivalent) in any one of the following: Maritime-related Studies; Environmental Science; Engineering; Management; Transport; Economics; Geography; Business; Law. Please note that this list is not exclusive.
Alternatively, a Higher National Diploma (Merit or Distinction award) or ordinary degree in a maritime-related subject combined with an appropriate track record of achievement in a professional context, such as at a senior managerial level, may be sufficient.
In the case of professional mariners, the entry requirements are as follows:
Deck Officer: Master's (Unlimited) Certificate + at least two years' experience as Chief Officer.
Ship Engineer: Chief Engineer (Class 1) Certificate + at least two years' as Chief Engineer.
English Language Proficiency Requirement
Applicants whose first language is not English, or who have not received their higher education in English, will be required to produce evidence of their English language proficiency.
As a general guide you should have achieved a minimum IELTS score of 6.50, a TOEFL score of 600, or suitable equivalent. However, you should be aware that this is a minimum requirement. Some courses require a higher level of proficiency.
