This course aims to provide advanced training in the rapidly expanding field of medical engineering. It is aimed at a range of personnel involved in medical engineering including engineers, surgeons, sales and marketing staff and regulatory personnel, who wish to pursue a career in this sector or are already in employment.
The course provides students with a broad coverage of this rapidly expanding field whilst at the same time allowing a degree of specialisation through the provision of optional material. Particular emphasis is placed on inter-professional training and the multidisciplinary nature of the discipline, enabling the student to successfully complete complex tasks at the increasingly important interface between engineering and the life sciences.
Careers destinations are diverse and include - medical engineering within industrial or public sector organisations, regulatory affairs and sales and marketing.
You will study taught modules covering: medical device engineering; research methods; biomedical engineering simulation; biomaterials; spinal biomechanics and instrumentation; computational and experimental methods, biotribology, functional joint replacement technology and tissue engineering.
You will have the chance to select modules from a wide range of delivery styles including distance learning, short courses and more traditional semester long modules, which enables part-time students with busy work schedules to have a more flexible approach to their learning.
As well as studying taught modules, you will also undertake a research project, which is chosen by you and undertaken in association with one of the School's world class research groups, including the Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (iMBE). A member of staff is assigned as supervisor. Alternatively students, particularly those in employment, can undertake a work based project.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
