This course provides advanced training in tribology, a subject of mechanical engineering, and the application of tribological principles to a wide range of different engineering systems. The core components of tribology, such as lubrication, contact mechanics, wear, surface engineering and surface characterisation are central to the course with optional modules available specialising in the research led fields of engine tribology and biotribology.
Friction, wear and lubrication, phenomena studied by tribology, are essential to almost any industry. The course is designed to develop a comprehensive understanding of tribological principles and practice however, the large choice of optional modules enables you to choose modules that suit your particular needs and interests.
Seminars from industrial companies is incorporated in each compulsory module. Speakers for these seminars are drawn from the research contacts of the staff in the Institute of Engineering Thermofluids, Systems and Interfaces (iETSI) and the Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (iMBE).
