This course aims to provide you with advanced chemical engineering and process technology skills for exciting and challenging careers in the chemical and process industries. It also enables graduates in chemistry or other science/engineering disciplines to convert to a specialisation in Chemical Engineering.
The course has been designed to provide a greater depth and breadth of knowledge of aspects of advanced chemical engineering and a range of up-to-date process technologies, which enable you to design, operate and manage processes and associated manufacturing plants and to provide leadership in innovation, research and technology transfer. For students with a non-chemical engineering background, the concepts of process design are introduced leading to a plant design project.
Career prospects are excellent. There are a wide range of career opportunities in the chemical and allied industries in process engineering, process design, research and development, as well as in finance and management.
You will study taught modules covering: multi-scale modelling; batch process engineering; advanced reaction engineering; advances in chemical engineering; computational transfer processes; reaction engineering; separation processes; chemical plant commissioning; industrial polymer engineering; advanced energy systems.
As well as studying taught modules, you will also undertake a research project which is chosen by you and linked to the main research areas of the academic staff. Alternatively you may propose your own project. In all cases a member of staff is assigned as supervisor.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
