The main objective of the common Greek-French Postgraduate Program of Studies “Management of Hydrometeorological Hazards” is the training of engineers and scientists in the comprehension of the meteorological and hydrological hazards and their education in the scientific principles and the methodological tools that will render them capable to practically solve problems of hydrometeorological hazards management and civil protection. Emphasis is given on dealing with corresponding issues in Europe and particularly in the Mediterranean, in the framework of climate change.
At the same time, students will benefit from the experience and knowledge of internationally recognized researchers, specialized in management of hydrometeorological hazards and civil protection, who will teach in this postgraduate study program. The knowledge and skills acquired are particularly useful in the countries of the European Union and the Mediterranean as well as in the developing countries of our planet. Consequently, the offered specialization in this postgraduate program can constitute not only a successful extension of basic undergraduate studies of Greek and French graduates who have a first degree in the Environmental Science and Engineering, but also of students coming from the Balkans and the Mediterranean.
The offer of specialized knowledge in the management of hydrometeorological hazards renders the offered specialization and program unique in Greece and France. The scientific enlargement of the study program is also strengthened by the geographic and thematic breadth of the experience of the two pedagogic teams and the level of the participating teachers. Thus, students (from France, Greece, and the other above mentioned countries) attending the postgraduate program “Management of Hydrometeorological Hazards” will integrate their undergraduate studies, deepening their knowledge and extending their horizons.
Program of Study
I. Master Program:
a) The Master program of study includes theoretical and laboratory courses and seminars, lectures, as well as the successful development and completion of a Thesis. The first semester of study is offered in France, the second semester in Greece and the Thesis is possible to be worked out in Greece or in France.
b) Due to the possible non-uniformity of the undergraduate studies of the registered
postgraduate students, the program has basic obligatory courses (basic courses) to cover the subjects of the program and in the new technologies (Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing).
Except for the basic courses, there are two more units of courses: the unit of Special Courses in Hydrometeorological Hazards and the unit of Special Courses in the Management of Hydrometeorological Hazards. After the successful completion of the courses the Master Thesis is worked out.
The teaching and the examinations are given in the French or English language.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
