In today’s rapidly changing economic environment healthcare organisations are increasingly implementing efficacious measures that are not solely based on outcomes, but utilise the metrics which other businesses, whether commercial or industrial define performance by.
Central to Health Operations is the identification of the clients’ (usually patients) needs and the design and delivery of a service that will effectively and efficiently meet those needs. Hospitals across the world are now embracing techniques in process, scheduling and resource management which have been widely used in manufacturing organisations for many years as a way of improving the patient experience and ultimately the patient outcome.
Cranfield Health’s MSc in Health Operations provides a thorough understanding of these techniques and their application within hospitals and other healthcare organisations. This enables students to develop the necessary knowledge and skills to overcome the complexity and challenges facing health organisations today.
The MSc in Health Operations combines strategic operations with functional operations to ensure that a graduate is equipped for the highest positions in their chosen organisation. This approach also equips the graduate with the ability, skills and knowledge to work effectively whichever level of management they find themselves in.
The course is suitable for new graduates from a science, business or management background. The course is also ideal for medical and clinical health professionals wishing to make the move into management in hospitals or healthcare organisations. Additionally, General Practitioners with commissioning responsibilities will benefit from this course through gaining the knowledge and understanding of healthcare operations management.
The MSc comprises a formal taught eight-modules, an integrated component and an individual research project and thesis. For the part-time course modules are delivered over five days and can be attended over a maximum of three years - minimising time away from the workplace. Professionals following the part-time option normally carry out the research project at their place of work, allowing them to apply their new skills and knowledge and make an immediate impact in their own working environment.
