The MLitt incorporates a formal research training component where you will develop your research skills and methodologies (20 credits). You also complete a number of detailed research assignments chosen according to your interests and experience (80 credits), and undertake a dissertation of 16,000–24,000 words consisting of a sustained piece of original research (80 credits). Study consists mainly of seminars, tutorials and independent learning supported by research training.
Dissertation supervision is available in the following areas: syntax; phonology; semantics; pragmatics; sociolinguistics; L1 and L2 acquisition; the evolution of language; history of English; English dialects; World Englishes; English place names.
You may also attend lectures and seminars for approved taught undergraduate and postgraduate modules (without assessment).
IELTS
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

At least an upper-second-class (2.1) Honours degree or equivalent. Applicants whose first language is not English require IELTS 7.0, TOEFL 100 (Internet-based) or 600 (paper-based), or equivalent.
