The Department of Italian Studies at Birmingham has one of the largest holdings of Italian films on video and DVD in Britain and is home of the Leopardi Centre to promote the study and knowledge of Leopardi and his cultural context in the UK.
The Department offers a range of postgraduate opportunities (research and taught) to those who have, or expect to receive, an upper second-class degree or above (or the equivalent from a non-UK university): PhD, MLitt, and MPhil in Italian Studies (all areas); and an MA in Italian Studies: Culture and Communication (taught jointly with the University of Warwick).
This innovative programme, taught jointly with the University of Warwick, brings together the combined strengths of two research-active departments, which are also highly rated for their teaching quality. It draws on the facilities of both campuses and makes extensive use of communications and information technology. It is intended as a means to further career development and can also act as a stepping-stone to higher-level research, especially a PhD.
