This programme offers an international perspective on these two key areas, which are of fundamental importance to businesses and society. It provides a sound understanding of corporate governance and corporate responsibility from corporate, investor and stakeholder perspectives.
Corporate governance is an exciting area, which is developing fast to meet the needs of a changing business environment. Investor expectations are more demanding than ever before, and the cost to companies that ignore the benefits of good corporate governance can be high.
Alongside this, there has been an increasing emphasis on corporate responsibility and the need for companies to be accountable to wider stakeholder interests and to the society in which they operate.
This programme considers all these issues in detail and is relevant for a wide variety of careers in business and the investment sector, or for those considering a career in research.
The academics teaching on this programme are leading international experts in the field. They bring their expertise and knowledge to a programme which we believe is leading edge in its coverage and content.
The Centre for Corporate Governance Research has strong international links; for example, working with the International Corporate Governance Network (ICGN) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) on corporate governance-related issues. The external adviser for the centre is Sir Adrian Cadbury, who is recognised as one of the most important players in the development of corporate governance globally.
The MSc Corporate Governance and Corporate Responsibility is validated as a collaborative programme by the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA): this means that, as well as graduating with an MSc, students who take all relevant modules will also achieve Grad ICSA status and will be exempt from the professional exams of the ICSA. Chartered secretaries are employed as chairs, chief executives and non-executive directors, as well as executives and company secretaries. They are key players with the skills, vision and values to take their organisations forward.
