The master programme in Art History with special qualification in Curatorial Studies and Museology provides research and practice-oriented education in art history, covering the following main areas of specialisation: medieval and pre-modern art, early modern art, modern and contemporary art, and architecture. The programme addresses the full range of visual arts in the Western tradition, ranging from early Christian to contemporary art. In addition to the art historical syllabi, complementary training with a strong professional focus is offered to the extent of a Master Minor programme (30 ECTS). These aims are pursued through seminar and lecture courses with a broad methodological scope and a careful selection of topics. Courses held by lecturers from various professional fields (museums, art councils, and freelance curators), project seminars in cooperation with cultural institutions, and excursions constitute a focus in its own right within the programme. The curriculum provides preparation for a professional scientific or organisational career in museums, galleries, and in related institutions as well as freelance curatorial practice.
