The Master’s course on Digital Media Technologies continues and builds on the Bachelor’s programme in Media Technology. Precondition for acceptance on the Digital Media Technologies course is the completion of the Bachelor’s programme in Media Technology or an equivalent Bachelor course.

The course work is tailored to practical considerations and features a large amount of project work. The scientific and theoretical level is high and the approach is interdisciplinary, paying equal attention to the latest technological tools as to creative design, ideas from the subject and the demands of the private sector.
Emphasis is placed on the specialized areas of TV and video production, post-production, audio design, mobile Internet, applied media IT and experimental media according to the fields of interest.

Contents

The module Media technology - background provides students with background knowledge of the subject, which is strengthened by means of practical examples. The skills gained provide a firm basis for the chosen specialized education.
The transdisciplinary basic module Media communications and design gives information based on experience on the basic principles of human communication and perception and the history and theory of media. Furthermore, importance design concepts are presented.

The transdisciplinary basic module Economics, law and management provides the knowledge of management and law that is relevant to a commercial approach to projects. Students will learn to undertake independent commercial work on complex problems. In addition, relevant skills in sales and marketing will be acquired, enabling students to provide sustainable client orientation in solution-driven areas of business.

The advanced modules transcend the borders of the individual specializations. They impart skills that can be further broadened and deepened in the chosen area of specialization. Furthermore, important information on related areas is provided, which is required for a deeper and interdisciplinary understanding of the overall production processes in media technology.
The chosen specialization imparts a profound expert knowledge at the highest level. Information is provided by means of projects that are undertaken in small groups, each closely supervised. The problems and tasks are addressed at topical developments relevant to the subject and pay equal attention to theory and practice.
In the module Research, development, innovation and science, selected experts use current cases to illustrate explain key problem areas, important research questions and development trends relating to digital media technologies. The research, development and innovation skills that the students acquire will be applied during the diploma projects and the resulting information will be processed and appropriately documented in the diploma.
The Master study includes numerous projects and activities in the area of applied research. Motivated students have the possibility to contribute actively to the St Pölten AUS’s research and collaboration projects, even before they complete their studies.

Building on a solid theoretical basis, students select individual areas of specialization and choose advanced courses in one of six possible fields:
