The School of Biosciences is committed to carrying out research of the highest possible standard. Our work focuses on a number of important themes that run through modern biological research: environmental biology, molecular cell biology, molecular microbiology, molecular pathobiology, plant genetics and cell biology, and structural biology.
Our facilities have been completely refurbished with a combination of internal and external funding, and recent equipment and infrastructure grants are allowing provision of a research environment of the highest quality.
The Biosciences Graduate Research School, directed by Dr Brian Ford-Lloyd, is responsible for the admission, training and monitoring of all research students in the School. Research students are selected on the basis of their academic performance and aptitude for research. We enrol around 50 students each year for PhD degrees. In addition, some staff appointed to Research Associate positions may register for higher degrees by research on a part-time basis.
