The MA Learning and Teaching (MALT) offers a postgraduate qualification for professionals currently teaching or otherwise supporting learning in Higher Education or other relevant professional contexts.

Students accepted onto the course will normally have already achieved an Honours degree or its professional equivalent and they will normally be expected to be working in a learning and teaching role in either the public or private sectors. Students who successfully complete the two modules: Planning and Managing Learning, and Assessment in Post-compulsory Education may be eligible to register for membership of The Higher Education Academy (HEA).

Additional course information
Higher Education is a rapidly evolving sector and there is an increasing emphasis on the quality of learning and teaching as well as on the need to research. The course will help you to keep up with new ideas in learning and teaching and key issues which affect the whole sector such as Widening Participation, e-Learning and the development of policy in Higher Education. Choosing the right learning and development opportunities as your career progresses will help you keep your knowledge and skills up to date and widen your career opportunities.
The professional development of practitioners alongside their membership of relevant professional organisations will add value, and enhance quality.
The course is made up from a series of modules each worth either 30 Credits or 60 Credits (MA Major Project only). After gaining 60 Credits it is possible to exit with a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching. After gaining 120 Credits it is possible to exit with a Postgraduate Diploma in Learning and Teaching. After gaining 180 Credits (including either a 30- or a 60-Credit postgraduate Major Project) you will be eligible for the award of MA Learning and Teaching. There are a range of different routes or pathways through the programme, and each pathway has different requirements in terms of which modules are compulsory, and which are optional.
