The MSc in Cultural Studies and Entrepreneurship works within the well-established traditions of cultural studies and business studies.
This thoroughly interdisciplinary course draws on a range of theories in both traditions and incorporates innovations at the cutting edge of contemporary scholarship. This course allows students to engage with experienced practitioners in the area of the culture industry.
Goals
The course offers an introduction to a range of theories, concepts, and practical approaches to culture industry. It enables students to concentrate on the key features of contemporary cultural work and production, and to develop analytical and critical frameworks that support the relationship between theory and practice.
Students specialise in either entrepreneurial models and innovation theories in the cultural economy, or on the key features of contemporary cultural policies in their regional, national and global contexts with reference to their application to the culture industry.
The MSc course is studied full-time over one academic year, or part-time over two or three years. A total of 120 credits of taught modules are studied in the Autumn and Spring semesters. In addition, a research project worth 60 credits is undertaken in the Summer Period giving a total course content of 180 credits. It should be noted that, projects will be run in collaboration between the School of Modern Languages and Cultures and the “Nottingham University Business School”.

Register Now!Applicants would normally be expected to hold at least an upper second class honours Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant subject in Arts, Humanities, or Social Sciences. Those whose first language is not English, and who do not have a degree from a UK institution, will be required to produce evidence of their competence in English. One of the following combinations of test results would normally be required.
Either:
(A) a British Council IELTS average final score of 7.0 with a minimum of 6.0 in any one element, achieved no more than 2 years prior to admission
Or:-
(B) a TOEFL paper-based test score of 600 or computer-based test score of 250, including in either case a minimum score of 4.5 in the Test of Written English, achieved no more than 2 years prior to admission

For those students who do not reach the standard prescribed in (A) or (B), successful completion of a full-time intensive English language and academic preparation course of appropriate length in the Centre for English Language Education.
International students whose first language is not English are required to have the above English language qualifications before they can register on an academic programme.
