The studies combine subject areas in business economics and management science with mobile service design and e commerce theory and practice. Students will acquire professional skills in planning, developing, building, and implementing electronic and mobile commerce products and services, and solutions for successful business operations. These are skills which are in great demand in multinational companies worldwide. The programme provides an excellent basis for a management and business career in the modern digital economy.

Successful completion of this two-year full-time programme results in the award of a Master of Science in Economics and Business Administration degree.

The Master's Degree Programme in Electronic and Mobile Commerce is provided by the Department of Information Technologies and builds on research at the Institute for Advanced Management

Systems Research (IAMSR). IAMSR is a research institute that carries out its research program in interaction with the Finnish industry. The research program on mobile commerce and mobile value services has been running since 1999 and now builds on cooperation both with a dozen of Finnish companies and a network of research groups at TU Delft, the Netherlands, University of Trento, Italy and City University, Hong Kong. An international group of doctoral students works with research projects on mobile value services.


Contents

The studies combine skills and knowledge in Information Systems with subject areas in business economics and management science. Students acquire knowledge and professional skills in planning, developing, building, introducing and maintaining information systems in an organisation.

Requirements

A completed university level Bachelor´s degree in Business Administration or in Economic Sciences with information systems is required for admission. Eligible applicants are selected on the basis of how well the bachelor´s degree corresponds to the programme and on the study merits of the student. No entrance examination. Admission granted on the basis of the application.

Applicants to the Master´s degree programmes taught in English must always prove their knowledge of the English language. For more detailed information on admission requirements, please check the admission website of Åbo Akademi university.

o IELTS (International English Language Testing System): Scores with an average of 6.5, with no individual scores below 5.5. A valid Test Report Form bears a centre stamp, a validation stamp and the IELTS administrator's signature. The Test Report Form must be sent directly from the test centre to the International office at Åbo Akademi University. Test results older then two years are not accepted.

o TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): S cores of at least 575 points in the paper-based test (no individual score below 52), or 90 in the Internet-based test (iBT) (no individual score below 17). The Test of Written English (TWE) is required for those taking the paper-based TOEFL test (Essay writing in the Computer-based test) (score required 4,5). In addition to this it is recommended that applicants from China and East Asia , unless they take the iBT test, take the TSE if they have not studied in one of the following countries: Australia , Canada , Great Britain , Ireland , New Zealand , South Africa and USA. N.B. Even if an applicant has the minimum score required in the different sections, the applicant is not eligible if the required total score is not achieved.
